Julia Austin

Senior Lecturer of Business Administration

 

Julia is a Senior Lecturer in the Entrepreneurial Management Unit at the Harvard Business School. She currently teaches Startup Operations and The Startup Toolkit SIP and previously taught Product Management 101 and Product Management 102. Julia was also the faculty lead of Startup Bootcamp in 2019 and 2020 and an Executive in Residence (2015) and Executive Fellow (2020-2021) in the Rock Center for Entrepreneurship.
 

In addition to her faculty appointment at HBS, Julia is an Executive Coach to startup founders, a board member, advisor and angel investor. Julia is also the founder of Good For Her,  a non-profit that creates peer cohorts for entrepreneurs who identify as women.

Julia has an extensive background as a startup leader. Most recently, Julia was the CTO at DigitalOcean. Prior to DigitalOcean, Julia was the VP of Innovation and the Cambridge Site Director for VMware, Inc., the Vice President of Engineering at Akamai Technologies and has held technical management and consulting positions at several other startups and mature companies. She also serves on the boards of Tidelift and Hiro.  Julia received her BA in Studio Art from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and is a graduate of Boston University's School of Business where she received her Master of Science degree in Management Information Systems.
